Major Investments in our Future

Coquitlam has made many tremendous investments that benefit residents:

  • King Edward Overpass, connecting our industrial lands on the Fraser with major transportation routes
  • United-Braid connection (to be completed by November 30, 2014)
  • Poirier Sport and Leisure Complex
  • City Centre Library
  • Over 100 acres of new parkland
  • New sports facilities
  • Partnerships with School District 43 for new schools and community amenities
  • Our new Homeless Shelter is now approved and provincially-funded, and will open next year on a city-owned parcel of land
  • Fully rebuilt Maillardville’s historic Mackin Park
  • New fully-accessible playgrounds in Blue Mountain Park and Town Centre Park
  • Other new playgrounds in parks and on Coquitlam schoolyards
  • 11 kilometers of newly-constructed Lougheed Highway and Barnet Highway, including traffic safety engineering, bike lanes, etc.
  • Acquired properties for new parkland in Burquitlam, Maillardville, Cape Horn, and Burke Mountain
  • Acres of new sports fields for our athletes, young and old
  • New dry-floor sports facility at Poirier
  • New equipment and amenities for the arts, culture, and theatre
  • Significant investments in stream stewardship and water quality
  • New stormwater pumping and infrastructure to mitigate flooding risks in Meadowbrook and Lower Schoolhouse neighbourhoods
  • Purchased and preserved the historic Booth Farmhouse in Maillardville

Richard has built better relationships with agencies and governments, and has shown tremendous innovation.  As such, much of the costs of these investments were covered by non-tax revenue, by development charges, by partnerships, and by funding/grants from senior levels of government.

Let’s continue to invest in a bright future for Coquitlam.
